PRE-REGISTRATION for 2012-2013
While it may seem early to start thinking about next school year, during the weeks of March 12th-16th, our counseling staff and staff from the Freshman Campus will be starting pre-registration for the 2012-2013 school year. Our goal in the West Valley School District is to have more students engaged in rigorous coursework that culminates in more students taking AP and College in the High School courses. At West Valley Junior High and the West Valley Freshman Campus, we are increasing the number of advanced courses offered next school year. Placement into these classes will be based upon MAPS test scores; however, some exceptions will be made for students who welcome the challenge of more difficult academics. Students accepted into these programs will be required to sign an agreement, and attend an informational later this spring.
In addition to our increased advanced programs, West Valley Junior High will continue to offer our Highly Capable program for students who are currently involved in that successful program. Both building will also continue to provide appropriate interventions classes in reading and math.
If you have questions about registration, advanced coursework, or your student’s MAPS scores, we will be having parent conferences Monday, March 26th from 3:30pm-7:00 pm, Tuesday March 27th from 3:30-7:00pm, and Wednesday, March 28th from 11:30am-3:00pm. Students will have early release (11:00 am) on March 28th-30th (Wednesday-Friday).
We continue to appreciate your commitment to your student’s academic future. Appropriate coursework selection is critical, so please take the time to speak with your student, attend student conferences or contact your school’s counselor(s).
